Springfield and Walsh

This Friday and Saturday our basketball teams played two tough team as well as a pretty big rival. Both the boys and the girls did really well and gave it their all.On Friday the girls came out with a win, while the boys had a tough loss in overtime. This team was a big step in our season and the win not only helped our reputation, but also our confidence. On Saturday we played Walsh in our home gym and we did great. The boys went into overtime and took advantage of it this time taking the win,and the girls also took home another win. The season is looking up so far for both teams and hopefully it will only continue.
We both have a big, long week ahead of us, but it is also one of the funnest parts of the season. The Holiday Basketball Tournament in Lamar is coming up this Tursday, Friday, and Saturday. We will see many of our toughest opponets, and best of all our rivals. Our girls are going in ranked number one, and will play the the number eight team Mclave. This is a fairly tough team and a big rival so hopefully we will come out with a win and keep on pushing through the next two days.Our boys are going in ranked fifth and will be playing the Granada, bobcats. Last year our girls came out winning firts place in a tight game against Wiley only winning by two points. We hope to represent our town well and keep our season going good. Deertrail and Fowler

     This Thursday and Friday our high school boys and girls had basketball games. On Thursday they played Deertrail and the boys and girls both performed really well. The girls came out with a fairly close win, while the boys had a tougher time and lost this game.However on Friday we played the Fowler Grizzlies, and both teams came out with a win. Our girls blew them out of the water, while our boys won in a close nail-biting game. 

I am very proud of both of our teams and hope they keep up the good work. This week our boys and girls both play Springfield on Friday in Springfield, and we play Walsh on Sautrday at home. We hope to come out with wins. Good Luck!

Eads High School Basketball Update

     This Saturday our girls basketball jv and varsity teams went to a basketball scrimmage in La Junta. We played the La Junta, Las Animas, and Mclave teams. The jv went undefeated and won all three games, while the varsity lost against La Junta and Las Animas, and won against Mclave. I think that this is a great starter for our high school team as far as knowing where we are and how far we need to get. We did fairly well this weekend and I hope that  it will only get better as the season goes on. This Thursday our high school boys and girls basketball teams both have a game in Deertrail. Good Luck!

Olympics

     My post this week isn't directed at any skills, players, or teams, but at the Olympics. I feel that the sport of basketball should definitely be played in the Olympics. It is an extremely entertaining sport to watch and it is so easy to get really into it. I know that when our USA basketball team is playing I definitely tune in and watch. I think that the players on these teams are amazing role models for people who want to go far in basketball. They show perseverance, strength,and great sportsmanship. I love watching the USA Olympics basketball team, and I would hope other people do as well. This link has some information about the basketball program in the Olympics.

School Basketball

     This week my school has started my favorite sport of all, basketball! I am extremely excited about this season, because I know that we can do well and go far. I think that our team not only plays well as individuals, but also as a team and that is what a team needs to be successful. We have had a successful year so far by going to state in volleyball, now lets make this a season to remember also!

   I have never really been a big fan of the NBA myself because I would rather be playing the sport then watching it. However, I figured that I might do one post about it just to show you that it is a huge part of basketball today and probably always will be. I found this website, and it has a ton of information, it shows all of the highlights of the games, some information about the teams, and the game schedule for the year. I probably won't be using this website very often, however, I thought I might put it out there so that everyone else could use it.

Michael Jordan's Flu Game

     I have heard many things about this intense game that Michael Jordan had played and was curious to see what else I could find on it. During this game Michael Jordan was facing some major flu symptoms, but managed to battle and push through and finish the whole game while scoring thirty-eight points to help his team get a victory, with a score of 90-98. I think this shows how great of an athlete he truly was, not because he scored thirty-eight points, but because he continued playing the game and helped his team get another big win. It shows that he was very unselfish and an amazing teammate to have.

     I have loved reading about this amazing basketball player! He was by far one of the best players in the NBA. In this article it tells about some of the best moments in Michael Jordan's career. My favorite to read about was the game in which he was sick with the flu and yet still managed to finish the game while scoring 35 points. In one of the articles it tells about how at the beginning of his career he was an instant star that everyone noticed. This fame kept even his own players from passing him the ball in the games, just to keep him from showing them up. I am amazed by the things that I have read about Michael Jordan and I hope you have been too.

     I think that I have given you enough information to get what the basics of basketball are and what the game is all about. So I thought it would be a good idea to start to talk about one of the best players in the game of basketball, Michael Jordan. This man was a great role model and an inspiration. He was a very talented player, but I love the fact that he never got to cocky and didn't act like he was to good for anyone. He always stayed modest and played the game he loved, and he did it well.      I love the information that this website gives! It would be great for beginners and young children to learn from. It just gives a brief overview of what basic skills are needed in basketball such as, shooting, dribbling, and jumping.           This poem is so true! I love all of the points he makes about how you will always be there for yourself while others will come and go. I also love how he says that you must be happy with yourself in the end. This is a very inspiring poem that should come in handy in tough times during sports.

    I love this picture! I think that every word in it is so true. It shows you that everyone does fail and that failure will in the end lead to success, as long as you stick with it. I think that Michael Jordan was a great basketball player who truly knew the game, and to see that he also failed is encouragement that shows that nobody is perfect.

     Since I have posted about the history of basketball, I felt that it would be a good idea to inform you a little bit about the present-day game. This website doesn't exactly inform you of the rules and requirements of the game but gives you a look at what you need for the game and how you can use this. I love how it talks about the variety of uses for the different size of players and also how they mention the importance of the mental game play. I believe that you can have the most talent in the world but be the worst player ever known if you don't know the tricks and plays to win the game. This is a great website, and I hope to find more like it in the future.

          This website doesn't have all of the exact information that I was looking for, but it has even more new and interesting facts that I never would have even thought about asking. I love learning these new facts and studying the history of this game. It has been around since 1891 and has evolved into such a fun game to not only play, but even to watch. I am excited to see what new information I can find about this game and hopefully share with you.

A Brief Look at the History of Basketball

  This web site has some good information, but I wish I could find more information about earlier in history, or even just more history in general. I feel like this is just a brief overview of what happened, and would like to find a web site with more detailed information. I would like to know things such as the specific players that were on the first professional basketball league, or what the coaches were like, if they even had coaches. Also some of the specific rules that were in the game, how many referees they had, and if people were very supportive of it or if they thought it was pointless. If I find some information like this I will definitely be posting it!

  Growing up in a small community that loves sports, I have been influenced by them my whole life. Even though I play all sports and enjoy all of them for different reasons, basketball has to be my all- time favorite. I have played the sport since I was in second grade and fell in love with it at a young age. I continued to play the sport through Jr. high and now that I am in high school I don't plan on stopping. This sport has taught me many life long lessons that will stick with me forever. I have learned to never give up, to be supportive of other people, and most importantly to not get down on myself when I make a mistake because we are all human.I have created goals for myself in basketball this year, and I plan to accomplish them all. I thought that by creating this blog I could learn more about the sport and maybe even gain new skills to use while I'm playing.
